Why get a hair cut before a wedding?

Getting a haircut before a wedding is important for a fresh, polished look, reducing stress by allowing hair to settle, and avoiding last-minute issues like nicks or bad styles. Aim for a trim a week prior for most cuts to let it relax, but very short styles might need a cut 2-3 days before, while major changes should be done months in advance to test them out.
The images you see below are of a bridesmaid’s hair on the day of a wedding which I had to cut before I styled particularly as she wanted to wear her hair half up and curly. Due to time restraints, haircuts are not something I usually do on the day of a wedding but on this occasion, I felt I had no choice otherwise the style would have looked terrible.
Benefits of a Pre-Wedding Haircut
Fresh & Polished Look: Eliminates split ends and ensures hair looks its best for photos and the big day.
Time to Settle: Gives hair a few days to relax and fall into its new shape, making styling easier and more natural.
Reduces Stress: Avoids the panic of a bad cut or an unmanageable style right before the event.
Room for Adjustments: A week allows time for a touch-up if the initial cut isn't perfect.
Photo-Ready: Ensures your hair looks intentional and neat in all your wedding pictures.
Timing is Key
General Trims (1 Week Before): Ideal for removing dead ends and getting a fresh shape without being too drastic.
Short Hair (2-3 Days Before): For very short styles, a cut just before ensures neatness, with a potential touch-up on the day.
Major Changes (6-8 Weeks Before): If you're changing your style, colour, or adding layers, do it well in advance to get used to it.
For the Groom
Get a fresh cut 3-5 days before for the perfect 'sit' of the hair.
A hot towel shave on the day offers relaxation and skin benefits.
Always Consult Your Stylist
Discuss your wedding day style and hair goals with your stylist to determine the perfect timing for your cut.
